"Underwear not disguise enough for robber"

Odd News:

"Underwear not disguise enough for robber"

(UPI) -- An alleged robber's disguise -- women's panties -- wasn't enough to keep witnesses from identifying him, leading to an arrest by Indiana police, officials said.

A man brandishing a large knife and covering his face with underwear robbed a convenience store in Franklin, Ind. Monday. He made off with cash, cigarettes and a lighter, WRTV, Indianapolis reported Wednesday.

Despite the disguise, both a customer and the station clerk were able to give police a description of the robber detailed enough to lead police to set up surveillance around a Franklin home.

Officers spotted Larry Bernard stumbling and intoxicated with a 12-inch knife in his waistband, Franklin Police Lt Chris Tennell said.

Panties, cash, cigarettes and a lighter matching the stolen one were found in his pockets, police said.

Bernard was taken to Johnson County Jail and held on $21,000 bond, WRTV reported.

"Colorado landfills: not enough trash"

Odd News:

"Colorado landfills: not enough trash"

(UPI) -- Some landfill operators in Colorado say the recession is causing budget cuts, increased fees and layoffs due to a shortage of their only resource -- trash.

At six landfills owned by Waste Management of Colorado, including one of the state's largest in Denver, trash loads have decreased up to 25 percent, The Denver Post reported Saturday.

Most recent figures released by The Environmental Protection Agency reported 5 million fewer tons of garbage went to landfills in 2008 than in 2007, the newspaper said. Americans tossed out 4.5 pounds of garbage per person daily in 2008, down from 4.63 pounds the year before, the EPA said. Figures for 2009 are not yet available

"I can tell you it's been a really bad year. Our people have really been hurting," said Tom Metzger, spokesman for the National Solid Wastes Management Association. "I don't know that it's ever been this bad."

In Aspen, a decline in winter visitors is adding to the problem.

"In our case, it's tourism that generates the most trash, and there are fewer people here," Pitkin County waste manager Chris Hoofnagle said.

"Driver passes out with meth lab in back seat"

Odd News:
"Driver passes out with meth lab in back seat"

(ap)-Police say a driver passed out in his car at a Tennessee gas station while a batch of methamphetamine was cooking in the back seat.

An employee at the gas station in Murfreesboro, about 30 miles southeast of Nashville, called police because the car was sitting at the pump for about an hour on New Year's Day.

Police say a chemical process to make the drug was in progress. Some meth-making ingredients can be explosive.

Murfreesboro Assistant Fire Chief Allen Swader told The Daily News Journal that gas pumps were shut off as a precaution.

Thirty-one-year-old Nathan E. Beasley is being held on a $15,000 bond on charges of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, reckless endangerment and manufacturing meth. No attorney was listed in police records.

Odd News:

"Obama effigy 'hanged' in Georgia town"

(AFP) – The US Secret Service is investigating an effigy of President Barack Obama found hanging from a building in the hometown of ex-president Jimmy Carter, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Monday.

The paper said footage from the local WALB-TV station showed the doll was hanging by a noose in front of a red, white and blue sign that says, "Plains, Georgia. Home of Jimmy Carter, our 39th President."

A witness told the television station that the doll wore a sign with Obama's name on it, according to the report.

A Secret Service spokesman said the doll was removed Saturday but declined further comment, the paper said.

Rush Limbaugh says doctors found "nothing wrong"

Odd News:

Rush Limbaugh says doctors found "nothing wrong"

(Reuters) – Influential conservative U.S. radio host Rush Limbaugh said on Friday doctors had found nothing wrong with him after he was hospitalized this week in Hawaii with sharp chest pains.

Limbaugh, 58, underwent an angiogram, or an imaging of the arteries and heart, to determine what caused the pain "like I have never experienced before," he said.

"They found absolutely nothing wrong. It was a blessing. No arterial disease, no coronary disease whatsoever," Limbaugh told reporters at Honolulu's Queen's Medical Center, where he was rushed on Wednesday from a nearby resort.

It was unclear when Limbaugh would return to his top-rated radio show, with 20 million listeners weekly. But he did use the news conference to take a jab at Democrats and their top policy priority -- healthcare reform that aims to give coverage to 47 million uninsured Americans and lower costs.

"Based on what happened to me here, I don't think there is one thing wrong with the American healthcare system. It is working just fine," he said.

Limbaugh, a multimillionaire, said he got no special treatment, but the staff made his stay "almost like a hotel."

"Police search for supermarket bottom sniffer"

Odd News:

"Police search for supermarket bottom sniffer"

Police in England are searching for a man who crept up 20 times on an unsuspecting supermarket worker while he was stocking shelves and knelt behind him to smell his bottom.
The man was caught on security cameras sneaking up on the worker as he stacked shelves at a Co-op store in Plymouth, Ananova reports.

The footage shows the sniffer pretending to chose items from shelves before crouching down behind the employee and smelling his buttocks.

The employee became suspicious and informed his manager who checked the video before Devon police were called.

The victim said, “I had no idea what was going on. I thought it was all a bit strange.”

"Pot-stuffed teddy bear found at Calif. toy store"

Odd News:

"Pot-stuffed teddy bear found at Calif. toy store"

(ap)-Authorities say they confiscated a teddy bear at a Southern California toy store that was stuffed with marijuana.

The owner of Toy Town said Monday that he got the package last week, opened it up and found a 2-foot-tall blue teddy bear that felt "hard and crinkly." The bear turned out to be stuffed with three large, vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana.

Owner Joshua Vecchione says he called Orange County sheriff's officials.

The package was addressed to someone in Colorado and mailed from Thousand Oaks with the toy store, in Ladera Ranch, as the return address.
