Odd News:

"Woman posts 'little' penis pics"

(UPI) -- A Swedish 18-year-old was charged with harassment for posting pictures of her ex-boyfriend's "little" penis on lampposts in his neighborhood, officials say.

Court papers say the teenager posted the pictures, complete with the "tiny" description and the 24-year-old ex-lover's name and phone number, after he ended their brief relationship to date another woman, The Local reported Thursday.

The newspaper said the woman also allegedly posted pictures of her ex-beau's new squeeze with a note labeling her a "slut" and threw eggs at her ex-boyfriend's car.

Police said the woman admitted to them that she knew her activities were illegal.

"Internet hoax bedevils Ohio man"

Odd News:

"Internet hoax bedevils Ohio man"

(UPI) -- A local official in Ohio was the target of an Internet hoax that sent a string of strangers to his house to cart away his belongings, authorities say.

Riverside City Councilman Mike Denning and his wife were stunned to see trucks and trailers arrive Jan. 29, driven by people responding to an online craigslist.org ad, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported Wednesday.

The anonymous posting listed Denning's address and said the couple were leaving the country and giving away their things, the newspaper said.

Police say they will ask a judge for a subpoena to serve on craigslist to reveal who placed the ad.

"Hopefully that will help us identify the poster," Riverside Police Chief Mark Reiss said, adding the person could face misdemeanor menacing or stalking charges.

Craigslist said the Web site would cooperate.

"Use of craigslist for criminal purposes inevitably leads to apprehension and prosecution," spokeswoman Susan Best said. "An electronic trail to the perpetrator is created, and craigslist actively cooperates with law enforcement."

"Message in bottle yields response"

Odd News:

"Message in bottle yields response"

(UPI) -- A group of California fishermen who sent a message in a bottle two years ago said they were delighted when someone found the bottle and even sent a reply.

The fishermen, from the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas, said they tossed the bottle into the water just south of San Diego in August 2007 with a message about Bob Dubcich, a friend of theirs who died from a rare form of cancer, KSBW-TV, Salinas, Calif., reported Monday.

The men said they enclosed $20 with the note to increase the chances of someone coming forward after finding it, which they said felt like sending their friend out to sea for a last voyage.

"(We said) if anyone found the bottle, send it back and we'd send you $100 so we made sure we'd get it back," John Saunders said.

Saunders said he and his friends were shocked by how far the bottle had traveled -- to the Philippines.

"To send him on a trip for 10,000 miles was bigger and better than anything we'd ever expected," Saunders said.

The fishermen said the man who found the bottle in the Philippines and sent it back to them has more than $100 coming.

"If he ever comes to America, he's going fishing with us. We're taking him, period," Saunders said.

"New pint glasses aimed at curbing violence"

Odd News:

"New pint glasses aimed at curbing violence"

(UPI) -- A British official is praising a pair of prototype shatterproof pint glasses being tested for their durability to reduce injuries from bar violence.

Home Secretary Alan Johnson said the glasses, created by the company Design Bridge, are aimed at curbing the estimated 87,000 broken-glass attacks in Britain each year, The Independent reported Friday.

"Having that weapon in your hand is an enormous part of why these injuries take place in the first instance," Johnson said.

Johnson said the first prototype, dubbed "Glass Plus," is a single layer of glass with a resin coating on the inside, and the second, "Thin Wall," features two layers of glass held together by resin. He said the designs were based on the windshields of cars.

"All being well, we'll find either one of these two projects, or even both of them, to be the kind of glasses you'll get in pubs and clubs not just in this country but around the world," he said.

"N.Y. seminary employee alleges boss stinks"

Odd News:

"N.Y. seminary employee alleges boss stinks"

(UPI) -- An employee of New York's Jewish Theological Seminary said her boss stinks in more ways than one.

Roberta Feinsmith, 67, of Fairlawn, N.J., and an executive assistant at the seminary for 12 years, filed suit alleging that Alan Cooper, her supervisor since 2007 emitted "constant barrages of ... flatulence" in her work space, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Further, Cooper staged yelling and cursing "fits" on a daily basis, the suit alleges.

Feinsmith said she objected to Cooper's behavior, but then discovered Cooper had sent a mass e-mail in May to the seminary's staff recommending that older employees quit.

The e-mail allegedly said that baby boomers "have created a kind of bottleneck in the work world. The frustration this poses for the young and talented should be obvious."

The next day, Cooper fired her, Feinsmith said.

"Canadian serial jailbreaker nabbed again"

Odd News:

"Canadian serial jailbreaker nabbed again"

(UPI) -- A Canadian career criminal who claims to be the most-escaped prison inmate is back behind bars after his latest break, police in British Columbia said.

L. Wayne Carlson, 67, went missing Jan. 25 from Victoria, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued a statement describing him as violent and dangerous, The (Vancouver) Province reported Thursday.

Earlier this week, an RCMP officer on routine patrol in Chilliwack, 50 miles east of Vancouver, spotted a vehicle matching the description of what Carlson was likely driving and stopped it.

Carlson was arrested without incident, police said.

In 2001, he wrote a memoir of his prison antics called "Breakfast with the Devil: The Story of a Professional Jailbreaker."

The jacket of the book alludes to Carlson's criminal career that began in 1960.

"From Saskatchewan to Vermont, Carlson broke out of jail 13 times, making him the most-escaped prisoner in modern North American history," the jacket says.

His various convictions have included bank robberies, frauds, car theft, weapons offenses and property crimes, report said.

"Couple ordered to paint pink house white"

Odd News:

"Couple ordered to paint pink house white"

(UPI) -- A British couple said they are appealing an order from local officials to repaint their pink cottage white because neighbors called it "offensive" and "tacky."

James Rogers and Alison Hall said they have repainted the Acton Beauchamp, England, cottage about every four years since purchasing it in 1984. But it wasn't until they painted the cottage Rose Madder, a shade of pink, that council planners ordered them to paint the home white and keep it that way, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

"It's an absolute disgrace and makes the whole village look tacky," said neighbor Brian Taylor, 62. "Why ruin a perfectly nice home with such an offensive color?"

The couple said officials are pointing to the cottage's status as a grade II-listed property, a category the government reserves for buildings of special architectural or historic interest, in ordering the repainting.

Rogers said he and Hall are appealing to the Government's Planning Inspectorate to have the home delisted so they can paint it whatever color they choose.
